Gellért Hill, Citadell
Gellért Hill is one of the most characteristic attractions in Budapest, as it offers a unique view of capital.
It became part of the world heritage Since 1987.
The Citadel located on the top of the hill is one of the most famous historical monuments connected to the revolution of 1848 and 1849.
The predecessor of the fortress, Csillagda, was seriously damaged in the revolution, so between 1850 and 1854 the foundation of the fortress that can still be seen was built.
They built walls 220 m long and 12-16 m high, some of which were later symbolically demolished.
From the 1960s, this area took on a completely different role.
It became a place of hotels and restaurants, as the wonderful view began to attract visitors.
The iconic Statue of Liberty was erected on the east side of the fortress in 1947.

Margaret Island
The historical Margitsziget is located on the banks of the Danube between Margaret Bridge and Árpád Bridge. Margaret Island, originally called Rabbit’s Island, was transformed into ornamental gardens by the royal family in the early 1800s.
The island was opened to the public in 1869, which at that time could only be reached by boat and steamboat.
Today, the island can be reached via the two bridges, but only by public transport or on foot, so it is truly an island of relaxation, family, sport and peace.
Many attractions await visitors, such as the Palatinus spa, the Hajós Alfréd swimming pool, a small zoo, the ruins of the monastery, the breathtaking rose and Japanese gardens, and numerous cafes and restaurants can also be found on the island.
For those who want to do sports, a 5 km running track has been built along the coast next to the baths.
Budapest’s largest fountain is located on the Margaret Bridge side, which in the summer – autumn period entertains visitors with serious and light music programs from 10 AM, then from sunset to 10 PM with musical light shows and short films painted on water vapor.
